The keynote is focused on the power of relationships, highlighting what individuals can do to have a huge impact on the lives of children in the care system. This includes how to communicate with children effectively, how to see the messages in children behaviour and spotting triggers that can often cause trauma for children.

Two concepts are integrated into this speech to give the audience an analytical understanding of how systems can create negative perceptions of young people and be a barrier to a young person accessing opportunities such as education or employment.

The first concept is understanding the written content of profiles and referrals, often these can be written in a way that don’t display children in a realistic and true way, often leading to placements been rejected, schools unwilling to offer children a placement and creating negative perceptions of children in the workforce. This keynote will provide you with key insights and tools to be enable you write profiles that will provide an authentic picture of children in care and improve the access to services.

Our second concept is the ‘Two Timetables’, this takes a look at how a school and children social care systems clash, focusing on how they can sometimes contradict each other and impact the child. This includes looking at the impact of ‘looked after reviews’ being held in school, sharing information between children social care and school and the role of a designated teacher.

This speech will provide you with a professional and personal insight into the life of children in care, sharing stories that are inspirational, funny and moving. The audience will leave motivated and energised to work with children in care, understanding the huge impact a relationship can have for a child.
