Purposeful Placements

Client: 5 Local Authorities in South East

Media that highlights positive attributes, values and characteristics of people committed to children in care to inform improved placement commissioning.

In 2018 we were asked by 5 local authorities in the South East of England to bring together all their Children in Care Councils and Leaving Care Forums and develop an opportunity for young people to be involved in film making.

We worked with 18 young people from, Southampton, Milton Keynes, Portsmouth, Oxford and East Sussex to make a film that would tell local authorities nationally what young people want from placements. The film was to become a nationally recognised film that underpinned a joint commissioning framework from across all 5 local areas.

With our team of young people we:

With the support the of participation workers from across all 5 local authorities we were able to develop a joint strategy that brought together young people to create a film that improved placement commissioning, ensuring that their voices were at the heart of the framework.

By providing young people with the opportunity to have their say, in a way that is constructive, meaningful and exciting, we can begin to understand what young people need and this is the best place to start when commissioning, developing or matching young people with placements – the focus of this project.

Note About The Film

Please note, Covid has meant unfortunately that the online release has had to be delayed so we can deliver on the promise made to young people that they would have live premiere of their work. (For now you can read a testimonial about the film from the project lead below)
